Laois GAA Congratulates William Delaney and Pam Cooney on Event Controlling Qualification.

Laois GAA would like to extend sincere congratulations to Pam Cooney and William Delaney on being conferred with their Certificate in Event Controlling under the auspices of South East Technological University Carlow.

This is a significant achievement and one that will play an important role in supporting the continued safe and professional delivery of games and events across the county.

The programme is designed to develop expertise in the planning, management and evaluation of events, with a strong focus on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders, including players, officials, spectators, personnel, media and local residents.

Through a combination of online and onsite sessions, participants gained practical and theoretical knowledge in key areas such as risk management, contingency planning, communication, and crowd behaviour.

On completion of the programme, participants are equipped to:

Plan and implement safety measures for all event day stakeholders
Ensure venues and personnel are fully prepared in advance of events
Apply effective decision-making and duty of care principles
Manage event control procedures efficiently
Understand key planning considerations, including risk management and crowd dynamics
Maintain detailed documentation and audit trails
Identify and apply relevant health and safety legislation
Respond to incidents and emergencies through structured contingency planning

The course also covered core areas such as the roles and responsibilities of Event Controllers, event planning, team development, and communication strategies, delivered across a structured timetable of sessions and practical assessments .
