The Laois team lines out as follows:

Permutations: The winner of Laois vs New York will go through to the Tailteann Cup Quarter Finals, set to take place on the weekend of June 15th/16th and will be drawn to face one of: Down, Kildare or Sligo. Down, Kildare and Sligo have home advantage for the quarter finals, as a result of topping their groups.

Recent Laois stats:

This is the 1st ever championship meeting between Laois and New York. It will be Laois’ 30th different opponent (of 33) only Waterford, Galway and Sligo remain.

The only 2 previous meetings in history of Laois and New York took place in the 1930’s and 1981 when Laois played New York away.

Stats vs Fermanagh in Round 3

Evan O’Carroll made his 40th SFC appearance vs Fermanagh, the 14th player to do so. The first Laois footballer to do this was Bill Delaney in 1951 vs Wexford. The second was Fergal Byron in 2007 vs Longford.

Paul Kingston scored his 50th Championship point from play.

The game vs Fermanagh was only Laois’ 30th SFC game where both sides scored at least one goal in each half.

Round 3 vs Fermanagh Match Recap:
Pearse Park, Longford on June 1st

Laois: 2-19 (19)
Fermanagh: 3-11 (20)

Laois scorers: Evan O’Carroll 1-2. Mark Barry 1-2. Paul Kingston 0-4. Killian Roche 0-2. Mark Timmons 0-1. Kieran Lillis 0-1. Eoin Lowry 0-1.

At full back, Kieran Lillis impressed with physical strength, adapted to this change in position well as full back was a switch from his regular position of midfield.

In midfield, Damon Larkin was excellent and won great kickouts. Larkin also set up a goal, feeding Evan O’Carroll with a lovely long ball in which O’Carroll finished with confidence.

Paul Kingston however was the standout in the Laois attack and in fine form with a total 0-4 (3 from play), Kingston is still a significant player for Laois, more than 9 years on since he made his senior championship debut.

New York: Previous Championship Result

Connacht SFC Quarter Final on April 7th

New York: 2-6
Mayo: 2-21

Laois connection on the New York team:

Former Laois and Killeshin player Shane Bolger started at right corner back in the Connacht SFC quarter final defeat vs Mayo.

Standout players: Goalkeeper Joseph Grace made 2 very good saves to deny certain Mayo goals from close range. Killian Butler and Frank O’Reilly combined in attack for 1-4. Killian Butler had a goal chance that was unlucky to hit the crossbar and scored 2 pts from play. O’Reilly scored 1-2 (1-1 from play) in the defeat to Mayo.

A memorable championship result for New York is when they defeated Leitrim in the 2023 Connacht SFC Quarter Final on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-15 after extra time. (New York got a 2-0 win on penalties) to send them through to their 1st ever Connacht SFC semi final last year.
