Preview: U20 Leinster Football Championship Semi-Final vs Kildare

We look ahead to the big game tonight in Laois Hire O’Moore Park!

Manager’s Tom Byrne and Sean O’Shea have named their side to face Kildare in tonight’s Eirgrid Leinster U20 Football Championship Semi Final fixture. Throw in tonight at 7.30pm in Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

Team news: There is 1 change to the side that defeated Meath in Round 3. Colin Dunne (Arles Killeen) comes in at no.15 with Tom Fennelly (Emo) dropping to the bench.

Colin Dunne came off the bench against Meath and gave a great display having kicked 2 brilliant points as well as giving the assist to Davy Costello’s late goal.

One’s to watch: Goalkeeper Conor Brown (Portlaoise) gave a man of the match performance against Meath; full back no.3 Colin McEvoy (Portlaoise) was very impressive with a strong defensive performance on his 1st appearance for Laois against Meath and no.13 Davy Costello (Emo) was prominent in attack, scoring 1-2 on the night.

Managers view: U20 Football Manager’s Tom Byrne and Sean O’Shea : “We go into the semi final after a tough week for all involved in Laois GAA but hopeful of a good performance against a well fancied Kildare team.

Previous meeting: Laois also faced Kildare in the U20 Leinster Football quarter final last year in Hawkfield Centre of Excellence, Newbridge and were unlucky to be defeated by a 2-point margin after a gallant display. (Kildare 2-15 Laois 3-11)

What’s Next: if Laois defeat Kildare, they will face the winners of Meath vs Dublin in the Leinster Final to take place next week on Tuesday April 25th. (Venue and Time TBC)
