Manager Tommy Fitzgerald has named the following side to face Dublin:
Most Recent Laois Debut:
Left corner forward Cormac Byrne (Abbeyleix) got his first senior hurling start for Laois in the Carlow game and he scored a point from play (0-1).
Round 5 Recap:
Laois: 0-29
Carlow: 2-26
Laois: Aaron Dunphy 0-16 (twelve frees), PJ Scully 0-3, Tomas Keyes 0-3, Aidan Corby 0-3, Jordan Walshe 0-2, Cormac Byrne 0-1, Fiachra C Fennell 0-1.
Carlow: Martin Kavanagh 0-14 (ten frees, one 65), Ted Joyce 1-2, Paddy Boland 1-1, Chris Nolan 0-2, Jon Nolan 0-2, Ciaran Whelan 0-2, Evan Kealy 0-1, John Doyle 0-1, James Doyle 0-1, Donagh Murphy 0-1
Standout Players for Laois:
Fiachra C. Fennell had a positional change from defence and started in midfield, where he had one of his best games for Laois: winning loads of possession, strong tackling & creating turnovers, intercepting ball and scoring a brilliant point from play.
2 turnover balls won from Fiachra C.Fennell in midfield led to 2 Laois frees converted by Aaron Dunphy and his long accurate passes also set up scoring chances for Cormac Byrne (0-1) out wide. Fiachra C. Fennell’s pace & ball control on runs going forward opened up the Carlow defence, one run he made from the half back line all the way to Laois’ full forward line and he almost had a goal chance himself from this, only for a late foul.
Shortly after, Fiachra C. Fennell again won a high ball in midifeld and set up yet another score: with a quick lay off to Aidan Corby, Corby who struck from long range and point from play from midfield as Laois lead for 1st time in game on 48 minutes.
Pj Scully was very impressive at scoring from difficult angles (0-3 from play). Pj Scully won 2 frees in for Aaron Dunphy to convert and created half a goal chance.
Aaron Dunphy scored a massive total 0-16 (12 frees) with 2 monster frees his standout scores, one scored from inside his own 45 and another from inside his own 65. Both were scored from inside his own half.
