Standout Players: Laois

Paddy O’Sullivan started in place of the injured James Kelly and was impressive defensively in the 1st half he was on the field. With a great high catch won to prevent a dangerous Kildare attack and turnover in possession. Paddy O’Sullivan made strong tackles on Kildare’s Niall Kelly and Paddy O’Sullivan again was out in front with pace as he intercepted the ball twice off Kildare’s Alex Beirne, both from long kickouts.

Paddy O’Sullivan with a lovely long kick pass to pick out Kevin Swayne, Swayne then used his super pace to go forward and set up the fast attacking play that led Mark Barry’s free, Laois’ 3rd pt of the game. Kevin Swayne also worked hard to intercept a dangerous high ball intended for Niall Kelly on the edge of the box.

Simon Fingleton was excellently solid in defence, displaying strong physicality. Using both his pace and awareness, he came out from the back line on multiple occassions after being the first man to pick up loose ball, to win back possession for Laois and prevent Kildare opportunities. His 2 standout moments were intercepting the ball twice and clearing it at vital times to prevent 2 Kildare goals, including a great block right in front of goal with his hand, as he fisted the ball out for a Kildare 45 in the 2nd half.
