Laois senior football manager Justin McNulty has named an unchanged team for Saturday’s Tailteann Cup quarter-final against Down at Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

The game throws in at 4pm in Portlaoise and promises to be one of the biggest days of the football year for Laois supporters, as the county welcomes Down for a knockout championship clash.

Saturday’s fixture is a repeat of the 2024 Tailteann Cup final, when Laois and Down met in Croke Park. This time, Laois will have home advantage and a large home support could make a real difference as Justin McNulty’s side look to book their place in the semi-finals.

Laois come into the game following wins over Wicklow and London in the earlier rounds of the competition. The victory over London last time out saw a strong all-round performance and McNulty has kept faith with the same starting fifteen for this weekend’s quarter-final.

Killian Roche continues in goal after returning to the side for the London game. He is named behind a full-back line of Alex Mohan, Trevor Collins and Jack Lacey.

The half-back line is made up of Paddy O’Sullivan, Simon Fingleton and Pa Kirwan, while Conor Heffernan and Rob Tyrrell are once again selected at midfield.

In attack, Mikie Dempsey, Ronan Coffey and Kevin Swayne are named across the half-forward line, with Brian Byrne, Daragh Galvin and Evan O’Carroll completing the Laois full-forward line.

Down will arrive in Portlaoise as one of the strongest sides left in the competition, but Laois will be looking to use home advantage, momentum and the backing of the county to produce a big championship performance.

A place in the Tailteann Cup semi-finals is on the line and a strong Laois crowd at Laois Hire O’Moore Park can play its part.
