Leinster Minor Hurling Championship: Phase 2, Round 3

Laois: 1.10

Kildare: 0.8

The winners of the Round 4 game this Saturday April 11th at 1.30pm in Laois Hire O’Moore Park of Laois v Antrim; will qualify for the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Round Robin.

Standout Laois Players from Round 3 v Kildare:

LJ Cuddy was the standout performer for Laois, finishing with 0-6 and leading the attack with great composure and accuracy, particularly from frees, while also contributing from open play in difficult conditions. He consistently kept the scoreboard ticking and was central to everything positive in the Laois forward line.

Cillin Hoey also played a key role, scoring 1-1, with his well-taken goal proving to be the crucial moment of the game as it gave Laois a strong advantage. His sharpness in front of goal and overall attacking threat made him a vital contributor to the win.

 

Leinster U20 Hurling Championship Round 1 

Laois: 2.16

Offaly: 1.20

Laois next face Dublin in Parnell Park at 2pm on Saturday April 11th. In this Group 2, 1st placed in the group qualify for the semi final, 2nd place qualify for a home Quarter final versus the 3rd placed team in Group 1. Bottom place exits the Leinster Championship. 

Standout Laois Players v Offaly: 

Jack Kennedy was very solid at right half back, defending well both on and off the ball. He showed good physicality in the tackle, strong pace on forward runs, and carried possession effectively. He also worked hard to win and secure loose ball throughout.

Eoin Delaney impressed at left corner forward, making intelligent runs and winning high ball. He created scoring chances, took his points well from play, and showed good awareness in setting up Cormac Byrne for a goal. He finished with 0-3 from play.

 

Leinster U20 Football Championship Round 2

Laois: 0.10

Meath: 3.12

Laois did not qualify to the knockout stages of the Leinster championship and now compete in the shield competition Andrew Cordon Cup: the quarter final v Carlow on Wednesday April 9th at 7.30 in Laois Hire O’Moore Park. Free entry. 

Standout Laois Players v Meath: 

Cathal Buggie was defensively excellent at left half back, winning frees and making two key tackles and interceptions that led to turnovers. He also showed good awareness winning breaking ball in midfield and used neat hand passing in support.

David Donohue stood out with his brilliant long kick passing, consistently creating attacks. His deliveries set up scores for Ultan Dunne and Dylan Murphy plus his clever movement in possession helped win frees for Laois.

Paddy Fitzpatrick made a strong attacking impact with pace and direct running. He delivered accurate long passes, (7 long passes to be precise landed brilliantly into the hands of the Laois full forward line, many of which led to scores.) Fitzpatrick linked play well, and created several scoring chances, including setting up Ennae Byrne in particular, consistently and effectively as Ennae Byrne finished with 0-5 (0-3 frees).
