Round Robin: Laois Minor Footballer’s are competing in Group 1 and got the championship campaign off to a great start last night in Laois Hire O’Moore Park with a win Vs Longford with upcoming fixtures against Offaly and Kildare to follow.
Results & Upcoming Fixtures:
Round 1: Date: 05/4/23. Laois – 2-12 (18) Longford – 1-2 (5)
Round 2: Date: 12/4/23. Laois vs Offaly (Offaly Venue Time TBC)
Round 3: Date: 26/4/23. Laois vs Kildare (Laois Venue Time TBC)
Knockout stages: If Laois finish as winners of Group 1, they will automatically qualify for the semi finals. Finish runner’s up in Group 1 and they will qualify for the quarter finals. Finish 3rd in Group 1, they will qualify for the preliminary quarter finals.
Managers View: Laois Minor Football Manager Conor Gorman: “We are feeling positive going into the championship and are delighted with the win against Longford last night. We have a great mix of players. 7 of last years minor’s return such as St Joseph’s Tadgh Dineen who starts in full back again this year after an excellent year in 2022. Eoin Johnston, David Donohue, Niall Lawlor, Fionn McEvoy, Danny McGrath and Jack Brennan also return. A key new player into the side is goalkeeper, Portlaoise’s Liam Conroy.”

Round Robin: Laois U20 footballers competed in Group 1 and faced Carlow & Longford and then with a brilliant win Vs a tough Meath side in Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Tuesday night with great home support to cheer the lads on.

Round 1: Date: 21/3/23 Laois – 1-12 (15) Carlow – 1-10 (13)
Round 2: Date: 28/3/23 Laois – 2-12 (18) Longford – 2-9 (15)
Round 3: Date: 4/3/23 Laois – 1-12 (15) Meath – 1-7 (10)
What’s Next: With 3 out of 3 wins, Laois have qualified for a semi final fixture against TBC on April 18th (awaiting results on the quarter finals to be played on April 11th).
Manager’s View: U20 football managers Tom Byrne & Sean O Shea “Throughout the 3 games played and out of a panel of 35 players, we have used 25 players. Our biggest strength is our group as a whole.”

Round Robin: Laois U20 hurlers are competing in Group 2 Tier 2 and started their championship on a positive note with an opening round win over Kildare last Friday March 31st, with upcoming fixtures against Carlow (tonight at home, throw in at 7.30pm) and then Kerry to follow.

Round 2: Date: 6/4/23. Laois vs Carlow. Tonight, Thursday Laois Hire O’Moore Park at 7.30pm
Round 3: Date: 15/4/23 Laois vs Kerry. (Laois Venue and Time TBC)
Knockout stages: Laois will reach the preliminary quarter finals with the advantage of a home fixture if they finish top of Group 2 Tier 2 and will reach the preliminary quarter finals with an away fixture if they finish as Group 2 Tier 2 runner’s up.
Manager’s View: Laois U20 Hurling Manager Ollie Hally: “Last Friday night, we had a good victory over Kildare in really tough conditions. The whole panel and management team are looking forward to getting into O’Moore Park tonight for Carlow. Hopefully, we can get a good local crowd out to support the lads, as they have been working so hard in training and are incredibly proud to represent their county. Carlow will be tough opposition, so every bit of help would be appreciated”.

Round 2: Date: 1/4/23. Laois – 0-11 (11) Galway 4-28 (40)
Round 3: Date: 7/4/23. Laois vs Antrim. Venue: Abbotstown Centre of Excellence at 2pm, this Friday.
Knockout stages: Winners of Group 2 Tier 1 qualify for the quarter finals and runners up of Group 2 Tier 1 qualify for the preliminary quarter finals.
Manager’s view: Laois Minor Hurling Manager Damien Carter: “Despite defeats in the first 2 rounds against Kilkenny and Galway. The positive aspect of our championship so far has been the great performances on display. One’s to watch going into the game against Antrim are both Cormac Byrne and Eoghan Murphy who have been excellent so far”.
