Laois Shopping Centre: SHC Round 4 Recap

Castletown v Portlaoise 

Castletown: 2-18

Portlaoise: 2-16

Castletown: Brendan Reddin’s intelligent movement to open up defensive lines and set up scores stood out, while John Gaughan supplied pinpoint long balls and key defensive interventions. Conor Doran (1-3) dominated under high balls, striking a crucial goal and late point to seal victory.

Portlaoise: Aaron Bergin (1-10, 0-7f, one 65) was relentless, scoring a superb goal, winning puckouts, and converting frees from distance. Eddie Critchey worked as a key playmaker contributing to scores, including a goal. Bryan Naughton impressed with strong tackles and turnovers in defence.

Abbeyleix v Borris in Ossory-Kilcotton 

Abbeyleix: 1-23

Borris-in-Ossory/Kilcotton: 2-22

Abbeyleix: Colin Byrne (0-5) stood out with clever ball winning, excellent aerial ability, and swift points, while also setting up teammates. Sam Quinn controlled midfield, securing puckouts, delivering precise long passes, and capping his display with a well-taken goal.

Borris-in-Ossory/Kilcotton: Aaron Dunphy (1-16, 1-11f) was outstanding, deadly accurate from play and frees, including a huge score from his own half before netting a superb goal. Colm Stapleton’s tireless work in the half forward line and tracking back to midfield turned over possession and sparked attacks.

Clough-Ballacolla v Rathdowney-Errill 

Clough Ballacolla: 1-15

Rathdowney-Errill: 1-20

Clough-Ballacolla: Willie Dunphy (1-2) produced a lively attacking display through a fine goal, sharp accuracy, and clever movement. Cormac Hogan (0-1) drove forward with pace consistently, scoring and creating chances, while Mark Hennessy (0-1) impressed with both his reading and timing to run out after ball coming his way and his ability to win high ball.

For Rathdowney-Errill, Mark Kavanagh starred up front with 0-10, including two superb sideline cuts, blending frees and play with class. Dylan Carroll shone in midfield, both winning and securing possession with ease: before linking attacks seamlessly, combining speed on runs and precision in passes. Paddy Purcell sealed a strong team performance with a brilliant goal, as he perfectly got on the end of a long ball in.

Rosenallis v The Harps

Rosenallis: 0-15

The Harps: 0-20

Rosenallis: John Maher played well with a strong performance in defence, making key tackles and interceptions. John Lennon (0-4) scored beautifully from play, while Jimmy Hyland was solid in the half back line and landed an impressive long range point from well inside his own half.

The Harps were led by Justin Duggan (0-1), who read play really well, drove quick attacks with smart passes forward and contributed to scores. Cody Comerford (0-13: 0-9f, 0-2 65s) was flawless from play and frees, and Rian Edwards really impressed with clean high catches and a fine point from play.

Camross v Ballinakill 

Camross: 3-24

Ballinakill: 0-20

Camross were inspired by Mark Dowling (0-3), who created two goals and added fine points himself. Tom Cuddy and Mossy Keyes (1-3) struck superb goals, while Cathal Cuddy really impressed in defence, with effective positioning and man marking plus he was first out to scoop up any loose or dangerous ball in the back line consistently.

Ballinakill: Cha Dwyer (0-6) shone with some outstanding scores including a massive long range point and a sharp sideline cut. His long ball distribution from defence to attack was also pin point accurate. Ethan Drury (0-3) excelled under a load of high ball, launching attacks from this and scoring well from play himself.
