Under-8 Football – Laois GAA Go Games Rules 2017
Player: Minimum of 5, maximum of 9
Pitch: 45m x 40m
Duration: Blitzes – 10 minutes per half, single games – 8 minutes per quarter
Goal Post: Training poles approximately 10 feet apart
Football: First Touch
Team lineout: 1 goalkeeper, 3 defenders, 2 midfielders, 3 attackers
Commencement
Of Play: Throw - in
Play: Normal rules except maximum one play – either hop or solo – before
Releasing the ball
Pick up from the ground is allowed once the player is in a standing
position. A player cannot touch the ball on the ground if they are on
the ground
Goalkeeper: After score or wide, goalkeeper kicks ball from the hands.
Frees: Player who is fouled (unless injured), or the player who is nearest a
fouled ball, takes the kick out of the hand. Opposing players must be
10m away from the free taker
Sideline kicks: Player who is nearest the ball when it crosses the line, takes the kick.
Opposing player must be 10m away from the kicker
45s: None – the ball is thrown up in the middle of the field
Scoring: All scores = 1
Respect
initiative: Just before the throw- in the referee will blow the whistle and each
player will shake hands with their marker
After the game the players and coaches will shake hands, and the coaches should
be seen and heard by the players to thank the referee
All players and coaches must respect referees’ decisions at all times
Starting times: All Friday events start at 6:30pm, all Saturday events start at 10:30am
